Mick Lee, MFT Trainee
Languages Spoken: English
My name is Mick Lee, and I am an MFT graduate student at Antioch University, Los Angeles. I am originally from New Jersey and I completed my undergraduate program at The University of Maryland, College Park. While I majored in electrical engineering, I have shifted my career based on my personal work with substance abuse recovery and multigenerational trauma.
At my core, I believe in unconditional empathy and patience. I strive to show compassion to whomever I work with, incorporating modalities and skills learned in my program. I am interested in using various modalities and therapeutic approaches such as dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), narrative therapy, child-centered play therapy, somatic, and mindfulness practices. I particularly want to provide guidance to individuals who are experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction, while also focusing on identity, values, and self-esteem through a cultural lens.
I am Korean and Japanese American. I have worked in several mental healthcare settings and I currently work in treatment of dual-diagnosis addicts. In my own recovery, I help many Asian Americans and other people of color with achieving sobriety from all substances and addictive behaviors. I also speak at panels, sharing how my experience with substance abuse and
unhoused communities has led me to the path I am on today. At Open Paths, I plan to use my heritage to provide support for those dealing with the difficult nuances of family conflict and immigration that stem from different cultural backgrounds. It is my goal to create a safe environment for people of all racial, religious, and socioeconomic histories.
I strongly believe that anyone is capable of change. Through my work as a mental healthcare provider, I am committed to helping the individual recognize their ability to heal. Whether it is through creative exercises, self-exploration, or development of self-regulatory skills, I will collaborate with the client to reach their treatment needs. Mental health treatment is my passion and I want to share this passion with the world. I want to help individuals start their healing journeys and show them that they are not alone.
